Louie the Mascot Ponders Relationship Status

Springfield, MO—Moments after the bride and groom exchanged vows on the diamond at Hammons Field Saturday, Louie the mascot began contemplating his own relationship status. Having been on the road now for 5 years, Louie has shown signs that settling down may be in his future.

“I remember when we, ‘big’ Cards, came to town to the ballpark and Louie was out with the guys every night, buying drinks and hitting the town. He doesn’t do that too often these days,” said manager Tony LaRussa.

“Louie has a dog now, that’s true. First sign of relationship buiding. But what kind of bachelor would give up the single life when you have ‘Team Louie’ cheering you on?” said MLB player Rick Ankiel.

Travel schedules are hard for many baseball players however, most people often forget about the mascots. Once the lights go out and the crowds go away, players can remove their jerseys and enjoy a nice dinner often with some anonymity. However, mascots can never really relax and always remain in the public eye, game time and after the last pitch.

St. Louis Cardinal Albert Pujols said, “I’ve seen pressure at the plate, in and off the field, and believe me, I never want to be a mascot. We got it easy, Louie is the man. Bird. Louie is the man-bird. Louie is the man-scot.”

Kirk Elmquist, the Springfield Cardinals vice president of sales and marketing, said he planned to talk to Louie and make sure he was ready to perform at game time.
