Springfield, MO – In an ironic twist of fate, the Double-A club affiliate of the freaking Cardinals has won a championship before the Major League Baseball club Chicago Cubs, however, the Cubs organization has placed a grandfather claim to the title as they were the last MLB team to previously have an affiliate in the Springfield, MO area.
“Yes, it is true. The glorious Chicago Cubs did have a club team here in Springfield in 1950, the last year that we ever had a minor league team in the Ozarks representing a major league team,” said historian Charles Bigoway.
Fans across the area were totally unaware of the seed of brilliance placed by the rival Chicago Cubs so long ago. “So what you’re saying is that the Cubs came in, and then the Cardinals picked up where they left off to win a championship? That makes no sense man, I’d rather believe that the Ozark Mountain Ducks won the World Series than accept that the Cubs helped the Springfield Cardinals win a title,” said Duane Lamton.
Local Cubs fans felt little remorse, “Oh great so we help the Cardinals win another championship. Who cares that it is a Double-A championship it is still a title that they are going to hold over our heads,” said Cubs fan Rock Hampton, “At least Cubs fans can take solstice in knowing that they were once connected to Southwest Missouri – helped provide for a title and can look forward to a MLB championship in the near future.”
