Springfield, MO –The arrival of Southwest Airlines to the Ozarks is bringing yet another change – naming rights to Missouri State University. The agreement was announced on Wednesday and many fans and critics were quick to passionately express their feelings regarding the University’s nomenclature.

“I’m so excited about the global implications of the new airline service. And on top of that I hear we are considering a name change back to Southwest Missouri State! It is so retro, and ironic,” said hipster sophomore Miles Jakers.

Dropping our directional tag “Southwest” was a huge step forward to establishing the University as a major player on the national scene. It has affected enrollment rates, athletic recruiting and donor support. I’d hate to lose the momentum we’ve established by reversing course at this time,” said Emmylou Drister, ’82 SMSU graduate.

Southwest Airlines plans to translate some of their business practices to directly influence to student life. No Book Fees are rumored to be part of the deal as are free peanuts during all classroom settings, with a minimal charge to upgrade to Professor from graduate assistant led courses.

Casual observers were more open to the change. Lynda Sheffield said, “Southwest landing a naming deal is huge, the University will receive an influx of funding and student life will be improved. We’ve seen large corporations do this before. I’m going to enjoy watching the legal battle. I’m sure Mizzou alumni are taking great pleasure in this announcement.”
