Happy Birthday Springfield…

As we approach the 175 year mark of our Queen City, I thought I would take these next few moments to paint a picture of the Springfield I remember and put together my own version of the Springfield’s Best.  So, let’s walk back through time shall we and reflect on some of the best Springfield has had to offer.  Frankly, few come close to the rush of the 4-lane water coaster that was known as Hydra Slide.  Whether on a mat or a disc, you simply jumped in and held on…no life guard, no rules, no safety and…eventually, no insurance.  If you didn’t take a girl to Swenson’s Ice Cream Parlor after a school dance, you simply weren’t living.  My first “boobie brush by” came shortly after a double scoop on a sugar cone…doesn’t get much better than that my friends.  The older, more experienced crowd was taking to the next level at the Tokyo Sauna…I always thought happy endings came in fairytales…boy was I ever wrong.  Mexican Villa has always been a tradition…especially if you fancy a good bout with the green apple quick step…better known as the whoo whoos in some circles.  You know, the North Town Mall just simply never got it going…I honestly don’t think I ever went there and, apparently, nobody else did either.  Please tell me someone remembers the Burger Station.  Ok…while we are talking about restaurants, what about Aunt Martha’s Pancake House.  Sure, Aunt Martha has had a rough go but that old bird sure knows how to make a flapjack.  The place could probably use a little sprucing up but still good memories there.  Is it Springfield Lake or Lake Springfield…better yet; is it really even a lake?  I have never, ever known anyone to ever go out on that lake…like ever.  I think it is really more like a pond…Springfield Pond doesn’t sound very good but probably more appropriate.  I could go on and on but I will leave you with this.  I have lived in the Springpatch my entire life and have seen a lot over the past 40 years but, one huge question still remains…is there really a haunted albino farm somewhere on the outskirts of town?  Please let me know.  In the meantime, for your motivation, I have but one thing to say…stay in Springfield…any town that is known for Bass Pro, Cashew Chicken and the Diverging Diamond Interchange deserves your allegiance.
