Army Corps Refuses Rain Water for Table Rock Lake

Rain water refused in White River Valley

Branson, MO – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Friday that its agreements to run Table Rock Lake, including acceptance of rain water, was beyond the scope of the Corps’ authority. Tours of Table Rock Dam have been canceled, as have any natural collections of rain water, but all other recreation areas on the lake are operating as planned—for now.

Corps spokeswoman Maybe Hankins said the Corps is trying to negotiate a new agreement with Mother Nature, but in the meantime, the Corps has refused any receipt or operation of rain water management. No one is sure when a new agreement will be reached due to a new legal ruling that limits how the Corps can contract with the clouds.

If a new agreement can’t be reached, Hankins said she’s unsure what that will mean for the 2014 recreation season because Congress hasn’t yet appropriated funds for contracting with The Rain Man. Experts speculate it could mean lower lake levels and, possibly drought conditions for the foreseeable future.  It could mean that the area returns to pre-dam conditions.

“I guess I could always open up an amusement park in the valleys created by the lower water levels instead of providing clean beaches, umbrellas and concessions at moonshine beach,” said one proprietor while purchasing metal detectors to comb the newly uncovered tetra beneath the dam for lost jewelry and valuables to fund the new business.
